About Westside Forward

Westside Forward is a volunteer-led community organization bringing together residents of San Francisco’s westside neighborhoods.

We grew from neighborhood organizing around democracy, social justice, affordable housing, climate action and other important issues. Our work is grounded in the belief that neighborhood residents should have a meaningful voice in the public decisions that affect their lives.

Westside Forward also serves as an action pod of Bay Resistance (opens in a new tab), connecting our neighborhood-based work with a regional network of community organizations, unions, faith organizations, neighborhood groups, and residents working to defend democracy and protect our communities.

Our vision

Westside Forward envisions San Francisco’s westside as a powerful hub of progressive change. We see a future where diverse, intergenerational neighbors are united by shared values of equity, inclusivity, and universal human dignity. We strive to shape local policy to create resilient, vibrant neighborhoods where every resident has the opportunity to thrive.

Our mission

Westside Forward builds grassroots power through community engagement, collective action, and advocacy. We are dedicated to:

Neighborhood solidarity

Creating an inclusive “home” for progressives through mutual support, participatory democracy, and government accountability.

Social and economic justice

Strengthening tenant and worker power while championing affordable housing and neighborhood stabilization.

Climate action

Advancing decarbonization, green transit, and ecological stewardship in partnership with Indigenous communities.

Community vitality and equity

Championing progressive public policies that ensure all neighbors—regardless of background or income—live in safe, healthy, and interconnected communities.

A volunteer-led organization

Westside Forward is shaped and sustained by community members. Volunteers research issues, organize events, communicate with neighbors, conduct voter outreach, advocate for public policies, and develop community-building projects.

We welcome people with different backgrounds, experiences, skills, and levels of available time. Some participate by attending community events or receiving updates, while others join projects, working groups, advocacy efforts, or coordinated actions.
